Group Based Positive Parenting Curriculum–Improving access
to quality parenting education for parents of children ages 0-6.
Overview
Parenting Now! Curriculum is an interactive strength-based
curriculum for the general population of parents. It is preventive
in focus and helps parents create a community support network.
Parenting Now! Curriculum helps parents build positive,
enjoyable and healthy relationships with their children, creating
a solid, lifelong foundation as a family. The foundation of this
curriculum is our nationally recognized Make Parenting A Pleasure
curriculum and Parenting: The First Three Years curriculum.
Core
themes of Parenting Now! Curriculum include:
- Parenting is the
most important and challenging job there is.
- Parents are their children's first and most
important teachers and role models.
- Every parent and every child is unique.
- Parenting is a learned process.
- We teach our children through words and by
example.
- Parents have to take
care of themselves in order to take care of their children.
It is important to build on strengths.
This
curriculum represents a strong community commitment to strengthening
parenting education. Parenting Now! Curriculum was inspired
by Success By 6 of United Way of Lane County, Oregon, and developed
by Parenting Now!, a division of Birth To Three, in collaboration
with the University of Oregon. Trained volunteers or trained parent
educators can facilitate groups.
Curriculum Contents
- Group Leader Manual including an overview
of the curriculum, tips for starting a Parenting Now! program,
and materials that will help leaders work most effectively with
parents in a group setting
- Seven individual modules that focus on important
parenting skills and issues
- 15 Parent Booklets with activity sheets and
handouts
- 15 Graduation Certificates to personalize
for parents
- DVD with 2 videos: Stress Busters and Non-Verbal
Communication
